Tutorial on Adding Background to Your Blog.

I know people wanting to start their own blogs and they’ve made comment about the difficulty of it or such. I assure you using the same service I do makes it very easy however. You practically just have to type. Now I do know HTML and write that code myself for my images so I thought I’d make a tutorial on putting images in your blog.

We’re going to start with the background. Despite being an art major, I did not paint the background myself. I stole it straight out of YPP using a screen shot. I myself use Screen Hunter for captures. I’m having a little trouble making the game show me the background I use so I can make this tutorial, so I’m going to make a new one. Feel free to use it if it comes out alright.

I start out by going into the game and taking a screen shot. I have my screen shot program set to rectangle so when I hit print screen I can marquee select just the area I want. This time I took the whole thing, but that’s not going to fit on here, so we’re going to pretend I only took the section I want. Now, sadly the next step in getting a background right is to open it in an image editing program. I use Corel 9 at home, but have access to the latest Photoshop at school.

So I open my image editor and then load my screen shot into it. I’ve set my screen shot hunter to store the images in a folder called Puzzle Pirates under My Documents. Yours will be wherever you told yours to store. I’ve decided I liked the stripes on the blockades tab of the notice board, so I took a shot of it and then loaded it into my editor. I select my rectangle mask tool.



And then I just marquee select the area, since I didn’t do it when I took the shot originally. If you used the rectangle too to do that, then there’s still the getting it just right, so I’ll go ahead and skip to that step. They’re stripes and we want them to tile correctly so I if end at the bottom of a dark one at the top of my selection I want the bottom of the selection to be at the top of a dark stripe. You want it as close as you can get it so you won’t have every third stripe wider than the others. Unless that’s the look you want to go for, but in this case I’m assuming it’s not. Everyone’s editor is going to be a bit different, in Corel I just tell it to crop to mask and I have my background all ready to go. It doesn’t matter if it’s a perfect square or anything for a background because it’ll tile. As long as our stripes are going to match up on top and bottom like I mentioned above then the sides are going to as well.



So I save the image as a JPEG file on somewhere on my computer. In this case I put it in my folder I’d made called Puzzle Pirates where all my YPP screen shots go just so it’d be easy for me to find again. Now I need to load it to a host.



I use Photobucket, because I find them to be very reliable and I’ve used them for years. Once you go to the website (by clicking the name in the last sentence) you can login or register. It’s free to register so don’t worry about that. If you have some other host don’t worry about any of this and just use whatever you normally use. Otherwise login on Photobucket. I’m super organized so even my Photobucket has different folders for different things. I have album I called pirate to use for Rami’s log. So I open that album. You don’t need to do that though you can just upload straight into the page it takes you to when you log in.



You’ll see a little section at the top to the right. You’ll need to click the brouse button and then navigate to where you have saved your image on your PC (or Mac or whatever.)



After you’ve found the image, and clicked Open you’ll need to Upload it by clicking the Upload button on Photobucket. Then you just wait for it to load or whatever it’s doing and scroll down below the area where you upload. You should see it there. The great thing about Photobucket is that is already has the code you need to add your image to the web, either on forums or on blogger with HTML.



So now that our image is loaded, we go back to our blogger account and login there if we haven’t already. Once at the dashboard we can quickly move to where we need to go by clicking the Layout link to the blog we want to add our new background to.



Now that took us to where we can arrange our page elements, but that’s not exactly what we’re looking for so at the tabs of the top of the page, find the one where we edit the blog’s HTML.



This is where it can get complicated for anyone that doesn’t know HTML. We have to find the code that tells out background what to be. It might be a little different for each type of template, so good luck. You could mess things up here if you don’t know what you’re doing. In my case it’s near the top and the first line of code under the BODY tag. So I highlight what is already there in the parentheses without getting the parentheses themselves. You need those for the code. You only want to replace what’s inside, so highlight and delete. Yours won’t be the same as mine, since mine is already my own personal background and the image is different for different templates.



I hope you didn’t close Photobucket. You’ll need both windows open at the same time. Go back to the window or tag Photobucket is open in and find the URL for the image we just uploaded. You should just be able to click in the little tag box once and the whole code will be copied for you. Normally on my screen I get a little yellow box that says, “copied” but I didn’t get that this time so just to make sure I right clicked and said copy.



Now we go back to the page we have our blogger html open on and paste what we just coppied into that space between the parentheses where the last image was. If you clicked the HTML code or the IMG code then you’ve got too much information and your blogger won’t know what to do with it. And remember for the code to work you have to have those parentheses and the semicolon after them still in place.



Now just click on Save Template and your background should be there.



Now click on view blog to make sure it all went alright. Mine didn’t. I screwed mine up and lost more than half my color, but yours should have worked just fine as mine had originally. I think I deleted too much code accidentally when I deleted my parentheses on accident and had to add them back. Which is why I caution strongly about only deleting what’s inside them. Ah, found my problem, in the above image (if I took it) I have a space between the URL and first parentheses. Can’t have that. Also if you don’t like the way you got your image edited just right, then my code is above, just use my image straight from where it is.

I was going to also show you how to add images like I did in Pic of the Day section of my blog, but I’ve already written so much, so I’ll do that one tomorrow. And I’ll link any tutorials I do in an element on the side so you won’t have to dig through the archives to find them. However the striped background we created above isn’t going to be up on my log forever, so if you’re reading this well after it was published you won’t see the example of how the background looks.

Wanted to Smite [Talise]

Somone was harassing me and I asked them to stop but they didn't. I was going to report them but I couldn't get the command to work and couldn't remember where to find the button. Though I undersand why they might put it in a place you have to search for it at. Wouldn't want it to be abused.


Then I stood around the docks and had some fun with friends. I almost fell in the ocean, but Crippled caught me.

New Clothes [Talise]

I delivered the new outfit I’d ordered a couple of days ago. It’s green and grey. A corset, gown, and muffin cap. I do rather like the look of it, and the cap looks cute when I’m on an island or whatever, but when I finally got my new portrait, my bangs don’t show and it makes my face look funny. We girls worry about things like that ya know. I didn’t manage to save up for a copy, since I bought another egg today, but I really don’t need to frame the first one anyway. I’ll wait and save the money for framing copies of ones with nice backgrounds.

Hmm, been playing (this char) only four days and I’ve already got two broads, a step away from my third broad and have two trophies. Those that complain it takes too long just don’t work hard enough. I’m a busy pirate and I still managed.

Surprize!

First I’d like to apologize for any drama. I just need a bit of space to heal is all and I’ll be fine in a few weeks. Maybe sooner. I thought I was alright already, but sometimes it’s harder to shrug off emotions than other times. I could go into more details, but I find that always just creates more drama. Best to forget things and move on than try to explain anything out. I’ve already lost friends even before I disappeared and posted the whys in my log and I don’t want to lose more, but I know I can’t help that. I’ve already been told how horrible I am for being affected by the events that started all this. I’m sorry I’m not as cold as I appear. Well, I’m not sorry I’m not cold, but I am sorry for those of you who expect me to be. And I’m thankful for those of you that still love me anyway.

I’ll be playing a new alt of mine for awhile. I’m trying new things and seeing if I remove myself from my element if I can fix the flaws in my character. By character I mean me to see if I can stop doing the things that caused hurt to begin with. I’m trying to focus on changing myself drastically into a better person. People are always changing anyway, I’m just trying to speed up the process a bit.

Now onto the more fun stuff. Yesterday I found someone with a white name called Surprizes standing around the docks and as my alt started to follow them from island to island in Jade. I was trying to be less of a stalker this time around, but so far I’m not off to a very good start at that. But at any rate he said he was going to LM. First time I’d ever heard it called that, most just call it Labby. But Ramina lives on Labyrinth Moors and despite her being in hiding right now I decided it was more important to keep stalking him. You know how I am when I latch onto a nice prey. I just can’t let him go. I had meant to say something in crew, but accidentally said it in flag officer, announcing to everyone I was there and stalking a white name. Monlizzy and Wackystar both jumped right away on the chance to help stalk Surprizes. Others started to come a bit later. Oh yeah, and I had 69’d him and he noticed so I encouraged Monlizzy to do the same. First time game staff has noticed that, or at least responded to it.

We all then went to Surprizes little house to hang out, then to Eyeore’s villa, cause by that time she’d joined us too. We lost a few people from the docks during migration, but that’s alright because flaggies and friends started to show up. We threw a little local tourney and Surprizes mistakenly thought we were acting out of character, but I was happy to inform him that IC is always that friendly and spontaneous with the fun and tourneys. The most loving flag on all the ocean. Probably on all the oceans. It’s hard to imagine a flag more loving than ours, even with the occasional dispute among members. A little sibling rivalry is always expected in a family.

Oh yeah and I looked up Booty or No Booty today, since I’d never heard of it before and Surprizes auto message said he was a special character for it. It sounds like a lot of fun, I should pay more attention to events. I just never have enough faith in myself to believe I can win in any. Lol

Sister [Talise]

I bought an Easter egg for the house, but Cloudpuppy’s dog, Cloudy wouldn’t stay off of it. I had to put my foot down with the dog, but he gave me big, puppy eyes so I forgave him.



I also went to the Lima docks to docktart like I do every day, but saw a white name person. His name was too awesome. How can you not love and stalk a man named Surprizes? I love Surprizes! I followed him around for several islands and met his other stalker Manjula. She is super nice too. I later decided we should be sisters. after all we have the same skin tone. I declared her the big sister since I already said I look up to her as a stalker. So from here on, history has been rewritten and Manjula and I are sisters.

Invisi Clothes [Talise]

I put on a new outfit, having ordered a teal striped shirt trying to make my free portrait mission show up. It worked but I didn’t get it right away because I thought I wanted a copy. Then the mission went away again. Oddly enough so did my clothes. I walked around for awhile with an invisible body.

Puppy House [Talise]

Cloudpuppy bought a townhouse and let me move in with him as his room mate. It was hard fitting all my furniture into a townhouse, but somehow I managed. I even was able to later clear one of the smaller rooms when Puppy let Monlizzy move in, so that he could move to what was the bathroom and she could bunk upstairs with me. After all there were already two fancy beds up there. I noticed my tubs were getting old quick though, I’d better stop moving them around. Those things cost too much.

I was looking on the tourney board and noticed Msrambonette had a tourney up with some neat prizes and a lot of money in the pot. One of the prizes was a card suggesting I send her a tell to join her crew so I did. I later went in on an event blockade with Squid Squad. I assured them I wasn’t as green as I looked and ended up doing really well on the sails in the special token category. My sailing I think has been better but I earned a seal of sails trophy.

Stalking Oceanus

I started the day being poked by Nica. Not very nice if you ask me. I then collected the rest of my furni that was ready to be delivered and started placing it around my manor. I changed my clothes once more just to be looking a bit different and then I joined the sinking blockade for Sea Change. After all it seems most of my flag was already there. I happened to get on the same ship Jolyma was on right off and she had her hands behind her back to hide her new injury. Poor girl lost a hand. I’d imagine that’d make it harder to cuddle Jon. Or at least pore painful on his part.

After the blockade I found Tamca standing in a circle on Sea Change’s new island. I of course had to stalk her. She was looking all hot in black. Funny but a year or so ago I thought black was just overdone and never looked good. I think it’s grown on me now. Probably still wouldn’t wear it though. Unless it was given to me.

I also saw Whiterose on the docks and so I had to 69 her. She did it right back of course.

I tried to pillage with Want Take Have, but I couldn’t last more than two battles and I was booching sails anyway. I’m still trying to get over it all, I’m just not completely there. I know what an idiot I look like though and it’s the fear that which causes me to think of starting over with a new identity. So I went back to my manor and moved furni around some more. Cloudpuppy joined me to keep me company. Thanks Puppy.


Sadly my day got worse before it got better. I was visiting my sister in her villa and going through everyone’s things when I realized I was an even bigger fool then I first thought. I spent a lot of time, money (game and real that I needed for school,) and effort into a wedding that only meant something to me. I married a woman that was already dedicated to someone else before the wedding. There never was going to be any marriage, and I can’t help but wonder how many of my flaggies also knew this and if I’m the only one that thought it meant something. I’m a complete fool and can’t stand looking like such an idiot.


I took on my personality of Simmarra and saw that she was just a tiny bit away from having three broads, which is pretty good for an alt of mine so I worked on her stats a bit. I then found myself on Tigerleaf Moutain and saw that Monty, Slayer, and Lizzy were all at Monty’s rum stall. They all knew it was me right away. Which is when I realized I’m going to have to start completely over from fresh and avoid the flag when I do. After losing in sword fight to both Lizzy and Slayer and not feeling like letting Monty beat me too, I pointed out to them that the OM was in a shack on (island name deleted for OM’s protection.)

I actually found myself laughing again, it was nice.

Furni Fetish

I started the day by asking all the flag officers if anyone of them needed me. I had looked to see who was jobbing and a few crews where, but just because they’re jobbing doesn’t mean they’re pillaging. Sometimes you job just to hang out. Or your jobbers just haven’t left, but at any rate, it was Bigmc who answered my call. So I went on a pillage with Midnight Aurora, but I did it as my alter ego Kreselda. I had noticed her stats needed improving in everything other than sails, but then forgot that was the reason I got on her and ended up sailing.

I was then invited by Ms. Rambonette to another Squid Squad birthday party similar to the one I’d crashed just a few nights ago. This time it was Silentblade’s birthday. I’m pretty sure I’ve run across him before though details always get fuzzy if I didn’t take pics. Maybe I should lay off the rum. I again bought a birthday card and pretended I belong. Those people really love to throw parties. I didn’t notice until after he left that Silentblade tried to add me to his hearty list. Sorry, Blade.

After the party (and losing another tourney. . . why do I enter?) I heard there was someone dressed like Slayer at Feline Furnishers. And I was out buying furni anyway so I went there to look. Turns out she wasn’t only dressed the same but had the same skin tone and hair color. The only difference was Slayer had her hair pulled back and the other chick didn’t. Crap came too to see and then Lizzy showed up and so Crap and I started pointing out things she was running low on. We like being helpful ya know. I ended up ordering eleven furniture items, and I still haven’t even completed my game table collection.

Maybe I should stop buying furni and save up for a bigger house? It is getting hard finding places to put things and late at night when I’m walking around in the dark I stump my toe a lot. It’s hard to sleep in a newly empty bed. Maybe I should get a cat too.

Much later in the day I went on a War Brig pillage with my own crew, the awesome Brethren of the Coast. I changed for the pillage, feeling like it was time to put on a different outfit. That last one was starting to smell of sea salt, rum, and drunk Slayer. Though don’t ask for details on that last one.

I chased Angel around deck a bit, not because I want to stalk him, but because I think it’s funny when he runs.

I have to point out how well Slayer was doing on the pillage because I said I would and she likes it when I’m ‘mean.’ Of course I’ll never point out if one of my own crewmates gets a fine on a puzzle (or worse,) but then Slayer isn’t in my crew anymore so it’s alright. We did tell her to put the rum down and use both hands if she wanted to do better.

After the pilly I went to Slayergurl’s townhouse with Slayer, Loki, and Zen for our typical late night fun. Cloudpuppy joined us there as well. I lost another tourney, made Slayer mad, and then went back home to sleep.

Slayer's Stalker

I started the day out by joining a pillage with Black Out at the request of my hearty Taserbaby. (Really I start each day by updating this log, but we’ll pretend it writes itself.) Cloudpuppy tried to send me tells and I informed him that because he wasn’t there and I didn’t know anyone else on the ship I had to flirt with Taserbaby. She didn’t mind though. Although he did find me on the docks before I went onboard and stalked me a bit while I waited for the ship to get out of battle.

I played several battles on that pillage and then went to Loki’s villa at the call of my hearties. A few of us stood around chatting and challenged each other to various puzzles. Cloudpuppy even came and joined in the fun.

After a brief time of doing nothing (was at class for three hours,) I went on a Midnight Aurora pillage. It was kind of strange, I heard Rato yell out about it to the whole flag and told my big sis to job me, but while I was waiting for them to get out of battle, Rato stalked me in my own house. I really don’t mind. I’d have stalked him first but I thought he was on the ship. I only had time for one battle with them however before I had to go onto other things. (I had a Bible study to attend.)



When I came back the second time I noticed Pay for Play was having some anniversary tourneys. Congrats on your two year anniversary P4P.

I didn’t join in on those tourneys cause I was planning to sleep sooner then they’d end (didn’t work out that way.) I did however, roam around the sword table looking for people to duel. I just wanted fun so I’d duel rated or unrated as long as they weren’t for money. Slayergurl also joined in on that fun and we did a couple of team battles. One where I was against her and my partner timed out. I didn’t last long after that. I was at my house during all that but I decided to stalk Slayer. When I got to Loki’s villa I’d found that Lord Luci had also stalked slayer so I challenged him for the right to stalk her and won. I am Slayergurl’s stalker now.


Zenobie ended up joining us there and there was more random fun of challenging each other to be had. I left briefly to go stalk Jolyma, but found her busy in a tournament and so went back to the villa to double stalk Slayer and Zen. . . .and Luci too I guess. While there I beat Slayergurl twice as sword fighting. That might not seem like a feat to some of you, but it’s a pretty big one for me. Never been able to beat her before at that puzzle. Then I stalked Zen onto the poker tables. Aznpride came to that same table so I continued from my party crashing the other night and pretended to know him. After all he’s got a birthday card from me, how’s he to know I don’t know him? It’s fun to talk to strangers like they’re old friends and then have them afraid to tell you they don’t remember you and play along.

Then I went to sleep.

Fun With Flaggies

I think I’m getting worse about remember the day’s events to put down in my log and I’m out of the habit of taking enough screen shots to remind myself. If I miss anything fun we did, just make a comment.

First Stalking:

I began my stalking by hunting down Fossaman and standing intimidatingly close to him. Then he ran and jumped on a ship to get away. . . coward.

I then found myself in an inn somewhere at the sword tables. I was probably stalking someone to the inn, but can’t remember who. At any rate, Crapulance found me on the tables after I’d joined to fight two others and so it was me and her against the strangers. We won of course. IC girls rock! Since she stalked me to the game tables, I stalked her back to her house, where I watched her sleep. Nothing creepy about that.

Event Blockade:

I went to Tigerleaf to get ready to join in on the event blockade but was distracted by all the people there to fight skellies. So much prey in one place. . . But then I hopped on Jolyma’s ship to get ready to sail for her. It must have been the wrong ship, because it was the only one to get knocked out. Joly will claim it was because she was distracted telling Zen something helpful to tell to Ras, but I don’t know. At any rate Moggle thought it was fun and laughed every time Joly cried out at being shot by him. It’s okay, Moggle, I laugh when I’m shooting people too.

Needless to day IC won the event blockade. Even if others had joined in, we’d have won anyway. We just wouldn’t have been shooting at each other. Pay was 75 a round, but I had wanted them to set pay to 69. I think it’s a much better number. I guess I should have used my stalker voice to get my way on that one.

Party:

After the event blockade we went to Loki’s villa on Tigerleaf for a little more flag fun. I’d promised to start stalking Runningbare and so at the party I followed him around a lot. Only smacked his booty once though. I also danced with Ras and entered two tourneys at once. I thought the first one I entered would take longer and the second smaller one would be over in time, but it wasn’t and as a result I lost both. I had fun. I love hanging out with my flaggies.

Pillaging:

I pillaged on a WB with my own crew, Brethren of the Coast. They tried to claim I was distracting them by talking, but I think that’s just a silly excuse. Since when has talking distracted anyone? I’d like to point out though how well Zen was doing on the pillage, ‘cause I said I would and I have to be true to my word or what kind of pirate am I? Well, the typical lying kind, but I’m more the honest type. Honestly, I’m an honest stalker.

Second Stalking:

During the pillage I noticed Jlyons and remembered how much fun I’ve had stalking him before so I promised to stalk him when we ported. Angel told him to run, but I’m pretty sure I heard Jlyons respond that he liked it. You know you all do. When we ported though I only chased him around a little bit, then forgot to follow him off the ship. But this time I’d grown tired and had to retire to my manor for sleep.

Karanga Planked Me!!

I think I spent the day pillaging and not much of anything else. I delivered my harpsichord though and went to buy myself a new portrait, but realized I don’t have enough to get a portrait and a copy. I like to get copies to hang one on my walls and leave the other in my gallery.

I hung out with Cloudpuppy on the docks of some island in Jade for a bit, and then I went to go pillage with Midnight Aurora. I’d like to point out that Karanga planked me for no reason during that pillage.

Party Crasher

The Night of my Return:

I found the time to come around and do more than just check in the night before last. Though I deny anything Karanga says I did on her cannon. It’s been awhile since I’ve been around since my off shore duties (university) was keeping me away from the pirates I love so much.

That night I went out on a pillage with Midnight Aurora. This was also the night I found out my wife had left me for a man. Although I can’t really blame her considering the man she left me for.

Yesterday:


I started the day off hanging out with Crono. I spent most the morning getting my affairs together and adjusting to single life once more. About half way though the day I finally got over it and decided I just needed to start stalking once more. Most of you know I kinda stopped when Zen and I got serious because I wanted to be faithful and didn’t feel stalking others was fair. But now everyone is fair game once more as I begin a new list of prey. Cloudpuppy is at the top of that list so far. Sorry Karanga, but I think I’m gonna stick to men this time.

I found Angelpichu at Tigerleaf docks dressed like a banana and he ran from me, so I chased him. Then I heard about the flag meeting about to go down. Looks like I picked the perfect time for a return. Although technically I didn’t pick the time, I came back as soon as I could. I never meant to leave to begin with, but was only finding time to check in once or twice a week until now. Angel challenged me to a sword fight, waving his cleaver around bravely, but I poked him with my stick until I won. Then I went to hang out in front of Jalex’s mansion while waiting for the meeting. Cloudpuppy found me there and so I had to pounce, huggle, and lick him. That’s what you do with Puppies.



Flag Meeting:

Then my big sis, Monlizzy showed up to start letting people into the house and I followed her in. I declared my shirt was falling off and challenged anyone to “beat that,” which Peresean did by not wearing a shirt at all. ~shakes fist at Sean~

The meeting began and I settled down from the chasing and stalking to get a bit more serious. Not a side many see from me. I felt the meeting went great. Lots of ideas were thrown out and those ideas got lots of feedback, both good and bad. That’s the right type of process. Everyone has the right to have their opinion heard, but everyone else has a right to comment on that opinion and then share their own. For those of you not at the meeting, you should feel free to share your opinions about the flag at the flag forums.

It was at the meeting as people were pouring in that I looked around the room and realized how much I love and missed all of you.

Pillaging:

After the meeting I went out on a pillage with the Amigos. Although Wackystar should have been off busy making my new harpsichord, not out on a pillage.

Love Shower:

After the pillage I did a love shower for everyone in the flag and all my online friends. It’d been awhile since I’ve done one, but I’m no longer saving up for a wedding and can be free with my poe once more.

Party:

The love shower caught the attention of Msrambonette who invited me to her house. I accepted the invite thinking nothing of it, but turns out there was a birthday party for one of her crewmates going on. I was a little embarrassed I didn’t bring anything and had to send my pet greenie (alt) to go get money so I could at least get Aznpride a card. Which I did. I hope he likes getting cards from strangers. Lol. While at the party I decided to pretend to fit in and went out in search of someone to pretend to know. Roxxanni was wearing black and purple. Purple is my favorite color and black goes well with it, so I went over to her and asked her how she was doing while commenting on how long it’s been since I’ve seen her.
